Experience
- 9+ years of professional Unity development: gameplay, UI, animation, features, tools and server infrastructure, with a strong generalist range.
- Most recently Senior & Lead Engineer in the mobile division of a well-known UK studio, leading teams of up to five. On a word game he built the core gameplay, features, PlayFab backend, MVVM architecture and SDK integrations (Firebase, AppsFlyer) from scratch to soft launch, before a major mobile publisher acquired the game.
- Also led engineering on a difficult racing project there, with a coaching and mentoring role keeping the team's morale high.
- Six and a half years at a mobile studio that grew from a 20-person startup to 200 people after acquisition by a major publisher. On its sci-fi strategy title ($100M+ revenue) he implemented gameplay, metagame and UI systems.
- Spent three years on gameplay and tools for an unreleased AAA turn-based RPG built on a major licensed IP: visual scripting tools so designers and artists could build character abilities and cinematics, and a custom animation system on Timeline and Playables. Became the de facto technical lead, mentoring junior developers.
- Built the multiplayer layer and real-time features for a MOBA-style mobile game: battle behaviours, character abilities, VFX and networking. Also set up the full foundation and level tooling for a city-building puzzle game.
Motivations
Wants a role that uses all of his experience in a smaller, solid team, with autonomy and room to keep learning.
Recruiter notes
Has done the whole journey: scratch to soft launch to acquisition, so he knows what a small team needs from its lead engineer at each stage.
A knack for leading. He adapts to whatever the project needs and has kept a team motivated through a tough project.
Full-stack for mobile games: gameplay and UI on the client, PlayFab and server architecture on the back end, plus the tools that let designers ship content without engineers.
